Hello!
Lately I have been feeling the need to have more direct connections with the people in my life through channels that are not owned by others. Digitally amorphous relationships deserve more defined form.
So, let’s talk about what I have been up to…
Pottery
My pottery has kept my mind busy. I have reduced the quantity of the pieces I’ve been making to focus on a couple of skills: new ways of throwing and glazing. I have also been focusing on teapots and different tea-related wares. I, admittedly, am a coffee person.
Throwing: I have been focusing on adding in or respecting the wobble in a pot. Often, in my functional work, I remain precise and consistent. That has led to some pots that feel stiff and rigid. Allowing for this wobble has been bringing them all a little closer to my ideal of “every pot is a person.”
Glazing: This continues to vex me as I work in electric oxidation. I have forgone the idea of glazing as an act of fire and heat. Instead, it’s better to embrace the fluidity and make the glaze do what only the motion of liquid can achieve.
Markets and commissions: Now is the time to start taking commission requests for the holidays. While I do not currently have any markets planned, I will keep you posted.
PinchPot
After trying a notebook and then exploring all the digital offerings, I couldn't find a reliable way to keep track of my work. I needed a way to experiment with my work and make notes that can truly be a reference. So I built PinchPot, something I would actually use in the studio. This has been a fun project and it's changing my work for the better.
